Lowes is now selling bike parts online, making them available for purchase in-store.
In a video posted on the company’s Facebook page, the bike repair shop said it has now sold more than 5 million parts to customers and that the store now has nearly 100,000 bikes in stock.
It said customers can order online through its online shopping portal, Lowes.com, or from stores.
“We’ve seen the rise of online shopping and now we can now sell parts to anyone, anytime,” Lowes president and chief executive officer Chris Dolan said in the video.
“We’ve had an incredible response and we’ve also seen some really strong demand for parts from our existing customers.
We’ve seen it go from a couple hundred bikes per week to tens of thousands.”
Lowes, which is part of the online shopping giant Amazon.com Inc, has also announced plans to add an online shopping platform to its online retailing platform.
It also plans to sell parts online through the company and partner with local bike shops and other retailers to deliver parts to its customers.
The move comes amid an industry-wide surge in online shopping.
Online shopping is a major part of Walmart Inc’s strategy to grow and expand its online presence, which was highlighted when the retailer sold a million items online last year.
In the US, online sales are growing at a rate of more than 10 per cent a year, according to a survey conducted by e-commerce consultancy eMarketer.
Amazon, which owns lowes.org and other stores, said in a statement that the move was “an exciting opportunity for our customers and their customers to buy and use our products online”.
“We want to empower people to shop, shop and shop, wherever they live,” Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos said in an interview with The Associated Press last month.
Lowes said it is not yet making any changes to its website or app to accommodate the new feature.
