The golfers at The Fat Quarter Shop on East Beach were just getting a new lease on life after the massive fire that destroyed the shop last year.

Owner Steve Taggart says the only thing that remains of the former department store is a single-story brick building that once housed a gym and fitness center.

The store has now been completely gutted, leaving only a few vacant storefronts.

The fat quarter was the place to go for all things fitness and fitness equipment, according to Taggar.

He and his staff have started a new business called Fat Quarter Fitness, which will sell gear and accessories to customers at its fitness center, the Fat Quarter Gym, and at its three other locations.

Taggarts staff said the business is doing well, though he said he is still working to restore the business to its former glory.

He also said he plans to reopen the Fat Quarters old gym and the Fat Half Belly Gym, which opened in 2016.

He said he was working on those two buildings before the fire.

“They were just amazing,” Taggars son and business partner, Matt Taggarth, said.

“It’s all gone.

I mean, they’re going to be demolished.

But, you know, I’m going to try to do what I can.

I’m not going to lose anything.”
